The Four Provinces Of Chinese Cuisine

The world of Chinese food consists of more variety than any other cuisine. There are varieties of food in China that is roughly categorized by four regions: Southern, Northern, Western and Eastern. When you are looking to dine at the best Chinese restaurant in Jumeirah Dubai to try variety of dishes from these provinces, you surely have to opt for Prax’s. Below we discuss some information about each of the provinces.

Southern or Cantonese: The cuisine from this province is perhaps the most preferred one in Dubai. Cantonese cuisine uses a variety of meat and vegetables. Rice is the staple dish and the traditional fried rice recipe originates from the Canton region. The dishes of this region are prepared quickly by simply stir-frying. Generally Cantonese cuisine is flavored lightly but there are a variety of tastes used. The dishes in this region have a sour and sweet flavor.

Northern or Beijing: The cuisine from this province is also known as the Mandarin cuisine. This type of cuisine is also available at Prax’s, which is the best Chinese restaurant in Jumeriah Dubai. This type of food was invented from an area of China that has very severe winters. The climate of this region is not suitable for growing rice; therefore wheat is the staple dish. Wheat is made into pancakes, dumplings and noodles. The flavors of Northern China are very vigorous, with plenty of garlic, bean pastes, onion, cabbage, oyster flavored sauce and dark soy sauce. With the influences from Muslim and Mongolian invaders in the past, Northern cuisines are a hearty fare. Mongolian hot pot, Beijing (Peking) duck and Mongolian beef are some of the dishes from this cuisine.

Eastern or Shanghai: The cuisine from this province uses a combination of rice and wheat as its staples. Wheat noodles and rice dishes are very popular. Fish and seafood form an integral part, as this region has a lot of rivers and water bodies. Sugar is also grown in this region and therefore it is one of the most important ingredients in the Shanghai cuisine. The cooking style of this area is refined and delicate, with a variety of savory and sweet pastries made by using the slimmest of pastry skin. Meatballs that are made from finely minced pork are also portion of this cuisine. This area also harvests a type of cured ham.

Western or Szechwan: This type of cuisine is famous for its tongue-blistering chili peppers that are added in a variety of dishes. There is more to this cuisine than just heat. The subtle dishes are smoked chicken that is burnt with tealeaves, hot and sour soup and twice-cooked pork. Szechwan pepper and five-spice powder are also treated as an ingredient, which adds spice to the dishes.
